Delphi and St.Luke Monastery

In front of the temple of Apollo in Delphi

So yesterday we rose early and journeyed from Athens to Delphi, where we experienced some amazing scenery and explored what Greeks considered to be the center if the universe.

From Delphi we traveled to the St Luke Monastery and toured the chapel there.

We were in Patras last night at an ocean front hotel ( very nice).

Today we travel to Olympia ( site of the first ever Olympic games ), and then on to Nauplia.

First full day in Athens

Today was a great day but a long one as we are suffering from a bit of jet lag. The kids have been great however, and the tour guide even mentioned how well behaved and respectful they have been.

We started the day by walking up to the Acropolis and viewing what was the center of the ancient city of Athens. It was so amazing to be standing in the midst of such history.

We then took a stroll over to Mars Hill where Paul addressed the men of Athens in Acts 17. This was quite a great experience as we stood where Paul stood and read his address to each other.

We went to lunch at a spot just outside the acropolis museum which turned out to be quite the experience and not a good one. However, the kids did quite well, showing patience with a pace of life and ways they are not used to.  After a brief respite at the hotel we traveled up the street to have dinner at a Greek Taverna and learn a few traditional Greek dances.

Dinner was excellent and now all of SCS ( well almost all) is tucked away getting a night of much needed sleep.

Tomorrow we got to a monastery and on to Corinth. Stay tuned for more pictures and updates....

And we're off to faraway lands!

Well here we all are!!!! Excited and ready to go! We have a very LONG trip ahead of us. The whole trip is about 17 hours long.  So pray for us that we not grow weary or frustrated as we sit long hours and navigate international airports. (Munich then to Frankfurt and then finally to Athens) Pray that we will get sleep as we fly because it will be bright and sunny as we land and we'll have a full day ahead of us before we go to bed that night.  They say that you suffer jet lag one day for every hour's time difference so if that's true... we all have 9 days worth of weary times during weird times of the day.  That can make for some interesting fellowship and conversations! But with God's strength and help we can all soak up the culture and history of each airport we are in and showcase His love for the nations with all the complete strangers from other lands we will surely encounter.
